Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, University of Washington Seattle, WA

 Postdoctoral Scholar 01/2020-present

· Participated in the COVID-19 task force to make projection of COVID-19 epidemic in the US and around the world

Built model and made forecasts of people’s mobility in the US and around the world

Evaluated the impact of different social distancing mandates on mobility in the US and around the work

Conducted quality control of the data and the results and supported engineering the projection pipeline

Created and maintained the pipeline to automatically update the social distancing mandate database

· Led the GBD 2020 tobacco burden estimation

Applied new methods (MR-BERT) to model relative risk curves of smoking on 36 health outcomes and estimate the evidence score of smoking on each of the 36 health outcomes

Improved and maintained the GBD tobacco estimation pipeline to produce tobacco results for GBD 2020

Prepared and presented our new results to the advisory group members and sought for their feedback

Mentored and supervised one post-bachelor fellow and one data analyst for the team.

· Led or supported some tobacco-related projects funded by the Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Led the electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) project. Scoped the available data, prepared questionnaire and estimated the burden of ENDS in the USA

Supported the smoking forecasting project. Built model to predict summary exposure values (SEVs) of smoking and forecasted burden of smoking till 2050 under different tobacco control policy scenarios.

· Participated in a project estimating smoking prevalence in 195 countries from 1990 to 2015

Extracted survey data to create dataset for smoking related estimates

Estimated smoking cessation rate for 195 countries using a newly developed methods

Evaluated the impact of MPOWER policies on national smoking prevalence

· Conducted a systematic literature review to assess the access to essential medicines in Vietnam, including assessing the availability, the price and the quality of essential medicines in Vietnam

· Reviewed the World Bank reports on Universal Health Coverage in 22 countries, summarized important information and identified knowledge gap for future research

· Contributed to the post-event evaluation of the 2nd Global Symposium on Health Systems Research held in Beijing in 2012 by conducting 12 telephone interviews with selected participants from China

· Contributed to a publication on the Malaria Decision Analysis Support Tool (MDAST), which evaluates different malaria vector control interventions available in East Africa to inform policy makers to make decisions

· Conducted over 100 surveys in Beijing suburban communities and incorporated EpiData for the data entry

· Analyzed the data in EpiData, under the supervision of a leading scholar in the field, which led to briefings to the Chinese government examining the effectiveness of the new policy

· Investigate the causes and consequences of multiple high-risk factors in pregnancy on mothers and their children’s health over time; characterize and identify clusters of MHFP and investigate changes in clusters over time; Identify determinants of variation in MHFP clusters before pregnancy; Estimate short and long-term effects of MHFP on mothers and their children; Assess the modification effects of social determinants on MHFP-outcomes relationship; Foster an interdisciplinary network to strengthen regional capacity in research, implementation and translation related to HRPs
